Do basic economy fares include carry-on?
Full-service international basic fares almost always include the cabin bag. U.S. basic economy on American, United and Delta traditionally restricts you to a personal item, so check your ticket before you pack.
Can I buy a checked bag on basic economy?
Yes, though rarely at the same price as a regular fare. Adding a bag can wipe out the fare-class savings, so run the numbers before you book.
Can I upgrade later to add a bag?
Sometimes cheaper than adding a bag on top: check the fare difference to the next tier during booking. If it's less than the bag fee, take the upgrade.
