What is the most common carry-on size?
Around 55 x 40 x 20 cm on European carriers and 56 x 36 x 23 cm on U.S. carriers. Weight caps run 7 to 10 kg on full-service airlines; low-cost carriers vary widely.
Do all airlines allow a personal item?
Almost all full-service airlines do: a laptop bag, handbag or small backpack under the seat in front of you. Basic economy fares and some low-cost carriers restrict you to just the personal item unless you pay.
What happens if my bag is oversized?
At the gate you'll be asked to gate-check it, usually for the airline's excess baggage fee. Some low-cost carriers charge more at the gate than at the check-in desk, so measure before you leave home.
